Files locked or access denied

I am running WinXP Home SP1. Recently, for no apparent
reason, I have been having problems moving files between
folders in Explorer. If I move a file, then try to open
it, I get a message that the file cannot be opened
because it is locked. If I try to delete it, I get the
error dialog: "Error deleting file or folder" with the
message: "Cannot delete "filename". Access is denied."
"Make sure that the disk is not full or write protected,
and that the file is not currently in use."

My hard disk has 10Gb free.

This only happens if I drag the file or folder to the new
location. It does not happen if I copy and paste it

I have run 2 virus checkers on the computer and found
none.

When check the the folder properties, the "Read Only" is
shaded. If I attempt to uncheck it, it seems to work, but
when I look at the properties again, it is shaded again.

The above behavior also happens if I move a folder.

Also, this behavior is not happening with the same files
on a Win 98 machine the files and folders have been
copied to.

Any idea on how to fix this, and to unlock the files so
they can be used or deleted?

Mike

Hi Mike,

Error Deleting File or Folder - Cannot delete (filename): Cannot find the
specified path. Make sure you specify the correct path and file name.
Workaround:

Right click the Recycle Bin/Properties/Check: Do Not Move Files to the
Recycle Bin...
