files gone after win 2000 to win xp update

Hi,

I installed Win XP over Win 2000 choosing during the installation procedure the option
preserve existing file system.
Now I can see all the folder structure as before under Win 2000, but the files are gone.
Can they be recovered?

Preserve exisiting file system just keeps your NTFS or FAT32 file system,
not your files. You have little hope of getting them back.
