Files deleted from web during local edit not deleted on server

I have run into a problem wherein FrontPage 2000 now
refuses to import most file types except very small files.
It never has this problem previously.

I recently installed Windows 2000 Service Pack 4. I edit
the site locally and upload to the host server running
FrontPage server extensions.

I did a work-around by moving the files (these are .Zip
and .Exe installer files offered for download on the site
I'm working on) into the relevant folder of the local web
site using Windows Explorer. I then recalculated the
hyperlnks in FrontPage, established the links therein, and
uploded the finsished pages with the download files.

The problem now is that if I delete such files (that were
manually moved into FrontPage using Windows Explorer
originally) using delete within FrontPage, the files don't
seem to be marked for deletion on the server when I next
publish the web. In fact, the unwanted files no longer
present in the locally edited web are staying on the
server! I can't seem to delete them by logging into the
online site via FTP, either.

I am wondering whether the import-into-FrontPage 2000
problem, and possibly the web update problems as described
herein, might be related to Win2K SP4. Or could these
issues be related to the very recent security MS patch
dealing with the possibility of a hacker gaining complete
control of a computer?

Thoughts and suggestions are welcome.

You always need to import the files into your current open FP web (File Menu
| Open Web) using either the Import command or drag/drop method, any other
method can lead to problems your are current having.

To fix, re-import all files, overwriting the current ones correctly, then
publish, then delete, then publish again

or

Open the live site in FP and delete the files that should have been deleted,
then re-import using the correct method, into your local web overwritten the
current files, then publish.

Also FP only deletes files when you publish using the Change Page only
option.

Unfortunately on my Windows 2000 main system where I
normally do FrontPage work, the problem is that FrontPage
2000 generates an error message when an attempt is made to
import other than very small files. The files I am trying
to import are only about 1.6 megabytes; the are .Zip
files. FP 2000 on this Windows 2000 SP4 machine refuses to
do the import and says to contact the server
administrator. These files were never a problem
previously. I have tried other types of files of similar
size; they all fail to import.

I moved the local web to a Windows 98 SE machine running
my other license to FrontPage 2000 and it works fine for
accepting imported files on that machine.

I did as you suggested and logged directly onto the live
web site to delete the two previously copied-from-Windows-
Explorer files that would not delete from the web on the
ISP's server when I ran the Publish Web option on the
local web. Oddly, my FrontPage 2000 setup that won't
import to the local version of the web works just fine if
I import files into the web on the server itself. This is
a very puzzling problem.
