files and settings transfer ??

My question may or may not be simple...I have always had a problem with sp2
and have had to remove it more than once ..I would like to reinstall it
however I want to do it by adding my programs to it (slipstreamed xp disc)
rather than adding sp2 to my system and finding out that there is still a
problem and having to once again remove it....Can I use the files and
settings wizard to copy all my programs onto another drive then reinstall
windows on this drive than transfer them back ?? Any advice or a different
way to accomplish what I need would be incredibly appreciated...

Yes, here are some articles that will answer all of the questions you may have on the Files and Setings Transfer Wizard and a link with the instructions on how to create the SP2 slipstreamed CD.

Thanks for the response....Now onto a possible other problem ?? I am
connected to a router ..Will I lose settings for that ?? also in looking at
the list of programs it does not include any games or my e-mail program
(Thunderbird)..Am I going to have to bite the bullet and lose all of these ??

You cannot use the FAST wizard to restore all your old programs
to a new installation. Each of your old programs will have to
be reinstalled.

Also, I would strongly advise against relying on the FAST
wizard as your sole means of backing up data from your current
installation. If you want to use it to transfer settings, fine,
but any files and folders that you cannot afford to lose should
be backed up to CD/DVD or an external hard drive before
reinstalling Windows.

Good luck

Thanks for the reply.....In thinking about this further I was wondering,,,
Since I have 2 sata hardrives on this computer (2nd drive formatted but
nothing on it)could I not install windows sp2 on the second drive then Drag
and drop my programs and games from my first drive so I won't lose anything
?? Then I can reformat my first drive and use it as storage....What I am
after is to have xp sp2 running on this 2nd drive and slowly add my programs
until I find the conflict that causes so much problems with sp2....

Once again, keep in mind that you're going to have to reinstall
the vast majority of your programs and games when you install
XP on your 2nd hard drive. "Drag and drop" is only useful when
transferring data files.

Since I've never tried what you're proposing on SATA drives,
I'm going to have to pass on giving any advice as to what
issues you may encounter. What I will suggest is the same
advice I gave in my earlier response, that you back up any
files you can't afford to lose to external media (CD, DVD or
USB drive). Having your important files only on your internal
hard drives is a recipe for disaster.

You might want to post your XP installation questions to this
