File transfer from Windows 2000 Pro to XP Home Edition

I've got a new computer, running on XP Home, and want to transfer files from
the old bastard, running on W2k Pro, before dumping it. I do have a CD-ROM
burner on the old one, but some files are several GB big. Bought a crossover
cable that I use to connect the computers' network cards with (excuse my
vocabulary, my computers and me are more into swedish...). I've changed
settings in both computers hundreds of times so I don't know what I've done,
but finally I came to the point where I can reach files on the new machine
from the old one.... Which at least proves that the cable is OK.

I never get to the point where I can rightclick a folder on the old computer
and select "Share...", that's not in the list.

I've shut off all firewalls and virus programs.

Can someone help me? I only need to do this once!

You will eliminate the need to troubleshoot a temporary network and your
transfer will be much faster if you simply remove the Win2k drive and
connect it as a slave in the XP machine.

First, there needs to be an account on the old machine (W2KPro)
that is identical to one on the XP machine. Same user name and
password.

Second, on the old machine you need to have "File and Printer
Sharing for Microsoft Networks" installed and enabled. Go to
Start -> Settings -> Network and Dial-up Connections. Right click
on the Local Area Connection icon. This should bring up the Local
Area Connection Properties page. Make sure there is a line for
File and Print Sharing in the Components box and that it has a
check mark next to it. If it's not listed there click Install.
Then select Service and click on Add. Select "File and Printer
Sharing for Microsoft Networks" and click on OK. You may have to
provide your installation CD. When the installation completes,
restart your PC and see if you can now share files.
