?? File Size Limit for Outlook PST???

Doug

Is there a file size limit to Outlook.pst??

I tried backing up Outlook.pst and the import/export routine barfed after a
while telling me that the backup.pst file size was too large. When I looked
at it in windows explorer, I saw that the backup.pst file was 1,932,000 and
that outlook.pst was 1,902,000.

Right now I can not send or receive emails and I can not delete any emails
from within Outlook.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Outlook - though I did not delete the
existing .pst files - with no success.

There is depending on version, will shift delete work for you or can you
create another pst file and drag items to this to reduce the size.

When a pst-file gets corrupted you can use scanpst.exe to search for and fix
errors. By default you can find scanpst.exe (or Inbox Repair Tool) in
C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\<locale ID>

An Outlook 97 - 2002 pst-file can become up to 2GB. An Outlook 2003 pst-file
can become up to 20GB.

Copying a pst-file can only be done when Outlook is closed.

Do NOT run scanpst.exe against that file - it will only damage an oversized
..pst file.

If you can open it, try archiving items, remove attachments, empty your
deleted items folder, etc. Good housekeeping will prevent you from having
this problem in the future but for now, reduce your file size and then
compact it.

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to
the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

After furious head scratching, KOrland asked:
