File sharing problem-mapping hardware drive not working??

V

I am trying to use XP's networking feature, but having a problem.

Am using a DLink wireless router and my wireless networking seems to
be working as I have no problem accessing the internet through my
laptops wireless card.

The way I am attempting to access shared files on my desktop Is by

My Computer >Tools>Map Network Drive.

When the Map Network Drive window opens it instructs "to specify the
drive and folder you want to connect to"

The upper window has 'z' drive as a default and the lower window is
blank with a browse option.

I used the browse button and find a Microsoft Windows Network icon.
Clicking that icon reveals a "HOMENET" icon (which is the name of my
home network)

Clicking on the HOMENET icon has no effect on opening or connecting to
my home network

Any help with this frustrating problem is really appreciated!

Victor,

Try putting \\ipaddress\share name of the share you want to access in the
folder text box, something like \\192.168.0.4\mumble where mumble is the
name of the share. You'll also have to either have the same account name and
password on the box sharing what you want or you'll have to use the "connect
using a different user name" option, putting in a user name from the box
sharing what you want... no double whacks before the pc this time... like
"192.168.0.4\administrator" for the user name and then the password.

Good luck,

Lang
