File sharing on win2000 problem

W

Hi all,

I'm trying to get file sharing working on my home network. It is
between a windows xp pro machine and a windows 2000 pro. The win2000
pro can connect to the shared folder on XP fine. However, neither
computer can connect to the shared folder on the win2k machine, not
even the machine itself!

So, from the win2k machine I can get into the workgroup and I see both
computers listed, and when I go into the win2k machine via 'My network
places' I can see the shared folder and printers/tasks. I can even get
into the printers and task folders. However, when I try to get into the
shared folder I get this error:

\\win2kmachine\Shared is not accessible.
The network path is not found.

And this is from the very same machine! It is bizarre. I've checked
netbios is enabled and disabled the firewall etc. No luck.

Do not disable a firewall on Windows 2000 - uninstall it. Most firewalls
don't properly disable themselves. See if that makes a difference.
