Please help, I have 2 PC setup to share some files on the network, they are
not currently setup to connect to the internet. Both computer are able to
see eachother on the network, however only one computer can access the files
on the other. There's one that' refuses to let me browse into the shared
folder of the other PC. I have disabled all firewalls, and made sure file
sharing is enabled on both PC as well as making sure there were actually
files shared on both PC. They are both on the same workgroup, can see
eachother's computer name but one of the PC will not let me in, gives me an
error something such as "don't have permission to access please contact
administrator". I have made sure the accounts have full control and admin
permission, I even setup an account with the same user name on both machines
but still no luck.

Are there some services or local policy that might be causing this problem
where I can edit????

thank you all that responses to this.

I have exactly the same problem!! Somebody please help us this is driving me
insane. I sound completely useless with computers, but I have also completely
lost my security centre from the control panel, is also not in managment
listing.
Seems very very strange.

I can see files from main computer with router to laptop wireless, but can
not see files from laptop to main computer although all is enabled, settings
all seem correct.

Thank-you
Amie

Choose wether to use Simple File Sharing or not. Then...

On each computer, run the Network Setup Wizzard. On the workgroup page, be
sure to enter the same exact name - it defaults to MSHOME, if you want
something else you MUST explicitly type it each time you run the wizzard.
This is often the problem for users, they just click past that screen w/o
noticing that it wants to reset the name to MSHOME every time.

The wizzard is the easiet way to ensure that all the necessary services
and protocol layers are installed and running. Note that even if you do
not enable the Windows Firewall, you still need the Windows Firewall
SERVICE to be running, or file sharing won't work. This trips up power
users, who often disable that service because they're running a different
firewall. The wizzard will bring it back on.

If you're using Simple File Sharing, each machine should be able to see
the other's Shared Documents Folder (and that's all). W/ SFS off, you'll
need to "log onto" the other machine (using an account on that machine);
use the Tools | Map Network Drive feature in explorer. Or, simply setup
the same account name/password on both machines, then each will see the
other's explicitly-setup shares.

If this still doesn't work, and you're using SFS, double check that the
Guest Account is NOT disabled; the wizzard should have enabled it, make
sure it did.

Hello, you seem to know a lot about sharing files - i have a question: i
would like to share documents from my laptop on the network i use at work so
that my colleagues at work my access and change if needed. any ideas???
