File Sharing, Internet and Networking question

John

I have a question about computer and internet networking
on XP Home. There are two computers, one broadband
external cable modem, and one Siemens SpeedStream #SS2602
router. The router has one WAN input and two LAN outputs.
Both computers have USB, and serial connections.

My question is, it it possible to share files between
these two computers (between harddrives and shared
folders), while only having one accessing the internet via
ethernet connection, and preventing any net connection on
the other computer? What sort of devices and connections
would I require for this project? Would ethernet and the
router be sufficient?

Thanks,

John

Plug them both into your router. This will establish connectivity. On the
PC that you don't want on the Internet, manually configure the IP settings.
Don't configure a default gateway.

you could also simply remove the TCP/IP Protocal from the network connection on the PC you dont want to have internet access, which can be found in the network connections

if you take my suggestion you should also make sure that file and print sharing is not soley bound to the TCP/IP protocal on both computers.

i forgot to add, that on the computer i dont want internet
access on, is it possible to password-protect its internet
access. the computer i am disallowing net access to can
easily be manipulated via settings by its user to re-allow
access. so the question is then, can i apply a password to
changing the settings allowing a connection?
