Hello,

I am trying to connect a windows 2000 professional laptop to a windows
xp laptop and share folders. They are both connected on my home
router. They are able to ping each other using private addresses they
are assigned. However when i try to access files either direction I
get an error that the network path is not found. With my windows xp
laptop I am able to access my third computer (desktop with windows xp)
without any problems and share files fine. Its just that I can't get a
connection to my laptop.

I have shared folders on both laptops.

Any suggestions what is going on or what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks for your help

- Can the machines ping each other by name rather than by address?
- Are they in the same workgroup?
- What is the output of this command when run from a Command Prompt:
ipconfig /all

No the machines couldn't ping each other by names(XP laptop to 2000
laptop), however my xp laptop could ping my desktop with a name without
any problems. Here is the ipconfig for both the laptops.

There is nothing wrong with your IP address settings. I suspect
that you have a firewall blocking your requests. turn them off
during testing. If you have ZoneAlarm, uninstall it. You could
also try commands such as this one for testing purposes:

net use Q: \\192.168.2.31\SomeShareName

John

Be sure you have the user setup on each computer. If the user is Joe he
needs an account on both computers.
