I have a very strange problem and haven't found any bug reports that would
explain it.

I want to save a shortcut to do a search of my favorites folder so I can
find bookmarks easily. (As an aside, I've never understood why this isn't
built into Explorer.)

Anyway, I follow the following steps:

a. Open the Find window in any of the usual ways, and choose the desired
find location.
b. Choose Save Search from the File menu. This will put a .fnd file on the
desktop.
c. Store the .fnd file someplace safe, such as your Windows directory, and
create a shortcut to it on the desktop (drag the file onto the desktop with
the right mouse button, and choose Create Shortcut).
d. Rename the shortcut to something more informative, such as "Find"

However, when I open my .fnd file, the "look in" folder (location) has not
been saved. In my case, the search I saved was for G:\Favorites and I see
"Local Hard Drives (C:;F:;G:)" instead.

I used to have this working before I had to reinstall XP. Anyone have any
clues?
I'm running XP Pro, Svc pk. 1

TIA,

Sounds like you have way to many favorites and bookmarks.
Try sorting these into folders for quicker navigation.
As for the problem, I have never attempted that...

U r not alone. Hope u(we) get an answer.

Any advice given is my attempt to show appreciation for all

may only apply NUGS. Personal attacks, nitpicking & criticism

Hi Michael,

Was this before installing SP1? Others have claimed the same and I can't
reproduce it again either. Good luck!

For a shortcut to the Favorites folder: Right click the Desktop/New/
Shortcut and type in: C:\Documents and Settings\Michael\Favorites (as an
example and follow the other prompts).

Michael,

Just want to suggest you another way to find bookmarks very fast. Try
a software called 1st TurboRun - http://www.turborun.com

It shows you all your bookmarks and narrows down this list as you type
desired bookmark name. E.g. you type "car" and it shows "CAR driving
guide" and "my favourite CARs". Usually you have to type 2-3 chars to
get a desired bookmark in top rows. Then you just hit Enter or
double-click it to open.

This program also do the same with all your applications in Start Menu
and all your documents in My Documents folder! You can customize which
folders you would like to show, so you can make it just for bookmarks.

It sits in the system tray and can be activated with a single
shortcut.

Please try: http://www.turborun.com

With best regards,
Mike.

Here's another possiblity:
Make a shortcut to your favorites folder and put the shortcut into "Links"
(View|Toolbars|Links if it's not showing). When you want to search, click
Links, right-click Favorites and choose Search. Search will open with your
Favorites folder already in 'Look In'.
