File saving problems in MSExcel

I use Excel 2003. The files worked upon have huge data & at any time atleast
two excel files are opened in the same Excel Program.
When I open the most required file ~ 8.5MB & try saving the same or any
other open excel file in the same program, a message is displayed "Excel
cannot complete this task with available resources. Choose less data or close
other applications".
Whereas the open applications are normally - Windows explr, Outlook2003 &
another excel program with a small excel file open (which does not rhows this
problem).
Its my necessity to open the large files in the one excel program alongwith
the other files for linking values & updating all files, etc.

I have the same problem since I recently installed SP2 for Office 2003. Up to
that point I was able to save files in excess of 8Meg without a problem, now
much smaller files generate this same error. The only diff is that I am
trying to save the files as shared files. No problems prior to installing SP2
for Office 2003

I have been working on a similar issue with Office 2003 SP2. After installing
the SP2 for Office 2003, we immediately started having problems saving a
large shared Excel sheet that was password protected. After several weeks I
have defintiely tracked a probem with Office 2003 SP2 that causes a file save
error if the file is password protected. If the password protect is removed,
the file save of the shared file happens normally. This error, like most MS
errors, is wrong and points to a lack of resources on the computer, but it is
a file save error. After removing password protection from the Shared Excel
file even the larger file saved normally. ( I have just retested this after
the Office 2003 update just released a few days ago and it is still a
problem. )

I have the same problem with large files but they are NOT password protected.
Have you heard of any other solution?

There are 2 levels of Password protection, 1) One to open the file and 2) to
Allow Editing of the file. In the files that I am working with I use both
levels of protection. I have not tested them separately to see if on or the
other is causing the problem.

Since you say that you are not using a password, I quess this doesn't help
much. There is a post further done that I ran into back when I added this
post originally that describes the inherant limits of Excel for a Memory
standpoint. It also points to a website that has additional info. You don't
say the size of the files you are dealing with or your internal Mem. ( I my
case, I am running either 512meg or 1Gig of internal memory depending on the
computer)

Sorry I don't have time to look for the other post but you may try a seach
of the other name in this post. I tink that user was in the referanced post
also, but I am not sure.

The Excel 2003 Update just released today (3/14/2006) seems to solve this
issue that was caused with Shared Spreadsheets that where also password
protected after the installation of Office 2003 SP2. I have tested this AM on
my shared, password protected sheets.
