File saving in Excel

I am using Excel 2003. I had opened two excel files (in the same Excel
program), 1 file sized ~ 8 .5 mb (linked to different excel files & those
files are not open) & other ~ 1 mb. When saving any one of these files, a
message appears "Excel cannot complete this task with available resources.
Choose less data or close other applications".
I have only the following applications open: -
1. Windows explorer
2. Outlook 2003
3. Another excel program with some other excel file.
I do not face this problem when large sized files (including the one above
referred) are opened in different Excel programs, however i have to many
times open two large sized files in the same program for ease.

Well, you can check how many memory excel curently use, and how is avaible
by using functions
INFO("memused") and INFO("memavail"). My experience is that extensive use of
links could be high memory consuming. For a good info about excel memory
limits and consumtion you can visit:

I have been working on a similar issue with Office 2003 SP2. After installing
the SP2 for Office 2003, we immediately started having problems saving a
large shared Excel sheet that was password protected. After several weeks I
have defintiely tracked a probem with Office 2003 SP2 that causes a file save
error if the file is password protected. If the password protect is removed,
the file save of the shared file happens normally. This error, like most MS
errors, is wrong and points to a lack of resources on the computer, but it is
a file save error. After removing password protection from the Shared Excel
file even the larger file saved normally. ( I have just retested this after
the Office 2003 update just released a few days ago and it is still a
problem. )

I have run into this very same issue. I have removed all links and the file
will save properly. After adding 1 link I get this message again. Any other
ideas?

The Excel 2003 Update just released today (3/14/2006) seems to solve this
issue that was caused with Shared Spreadsheets that where also password
protected after the installation of Office 2003 SP2. I have tested this AM on
my shared, password protected sheets.
