I am using Windows Xp. In that a having 3 drives all loaded with data. But
when i try to open a particular drive, a pop up is thrown asking that do u
want to format the drive. Even the drive is not getting recognized form cmd
prompt. I tried with all the options but in vain.
Is there any option to retrieve the data (through OS) without using any tool
provided by other vendors?

Is the drive visible in Disk Management?
Is it recognised in the Bios?

That drive is visible when I open "My Computer" and also able to right click
that. When I perform any operations like defragment or bakup option its not
working.

Not My Computer, but "Disk Management" what does it say about the drive?

In scenarios like that, I've made only one discovery, and its not really XP
oriented. Basically what's happening is that XP recognizes the file system
by examing the partition. When it goes to the FAT32 file table, the file
table makes no sense. Therefore, XP thinks it needs formatting. Have only
seen this when a hard drive was moved from another PC.
