I have set windows explorer to display files in a details window
alphabetically. When I open another application, eg. media player classic
and open a file, the open list is displayed in a list form and not the
details form I would like. Other applications display in list rather than
details. How can I make all applications behave with the same settings as
explorer? Even when I change the settings in media players, the next time I
use open, it defaults back to list. Thanks.

[Windows Explorer], [Tools], [Folder Options], [View] tab

step 1:
scroll down to "Remember each folder's view settings" and
uncheck it.

step 2:
view a folder with the desired settings and return to the
[View] tab (as indicated above) and click the "Apply to
All Folders" button near the top.

Thanks, tried this, but didn't work. This only applies to folders in windows
explorer, but doesn't apply to other applications. They're still showing the
'list' window instead of the 'details window.

You can't change it for the File | Open and File | Save dialog boxes and
have it stay for the next time or for all apps. You can change it for
that one current instance, then it reverts.

All I can suggest then is to go to THEIR websites.
(Remind me why you asked the question here then.)
