File names change color

I'm using Windows XP Profesional with MS Office 2000 and for some unknown reason my saved files are randomly being displayed in a BLUE type font. There doesn't appear to be any consistency other than they are files saved with Microsoft products. However it's not all of them. I'm trying to identify a pattern but nothing is jumping out at me. Anyone have a clue? Is this potentially a virus? I am running an up-to-date version of Symantec Antivirus

Not to mention that the Microsoft website was completely useless.

Compressed files show in a blue colour. Is that what you are referring to?
