File icons suddenly changed

Up until today, different files all appeared in Explorer with the Icon for
the associated program (Adobe Acrobat Icon for PDF files, MS Access Icon for
MDB files, MS Word Icon for DOC files etc.).

Now, suddenly many of my files are appearing with generic icons that Windows
seems to assign to unknown file types. They still open appropriately when
double-clicked, the Icons are just gone.

Any suggestions as to cause and cure?

Thanx,

Thank you for the link. Unfortunately, it doesn't address my problem.

The file associations are still OK, as far as I can tell. When I
double-click a .DOC file, it opens in MS Word, for example. Or, when I
double-click on a .PDF file, it opens in Adobe Acrobat.

The problem I have, although it probably seems minor, is that the Icons for
the files in Explorer and elsewhere no longer reflect what program the file
is associated with. Up until now, when I opened Explorer, every file that
had an association had a small Icon that showed what the association was.
These small Icons have now been peplaced by generic Icons.

Thanx,

Buddha
