File format error message

My Excel 97 is networked with other users in the
hospital. Only a few of our files are coming up with this
message. Message is: File Format Is Not Valid. Since
this is not affecting all of the files in Excel what
caused this error message on a few and how do we correct
it.

open the file with MSWord. What can I do to restore the
file structure.
