File download stops and times out in Windows XP Home Ed SP2 and IE

This used to work but I had to totally reformat my HD after som problems and
reinstall Windows XP Home Edition SP 2.

However, now I have big problems downloading files within the browser. A
file download stops and times out at various % complete. I have even tried
with other browsers and get the same problem.

Example: When I try to download from
http://www.nero.com/nero7/eng/nero7-up.php the download always fails with a
time out at various points in the download process.

Same thing for all other downloads I am trying.

This is true for BOTH my wired connection and wireless connection in the
same computer. However, same downloads works fine from my Macintosh... Both
computers are connected to the same router (Linksys WAG54GX2).

However, if I try to download for example via FlashFXP it works fine.
Unfortunately there is no FTP access for Nero for example so I have to
download it via my Macintosh and transfer the downloaded file via an USB
memory to my PC...

Any suggestions what is causing the time outs?

Hi Jack

Thanks for the link to that interesting site. Nice tools there but no change
with those settings...

The strange thing is that this used to work until a 1 week ago... I had to
reformat my HD and reinstall everything and then these problems started...

Doing FTP-transfers with for example FlashFXP works fine... Must be
something with the HTTP-protocol since this problem occurs in all kinds of
browser software I have tried...

I also tried to uninstall SP2 and reinstalled Win XP home ed SP1 (without
reformatting) and then it seemed to work (though pretty slow, about 200kB/s
