Hi,
We've just moved all of our shares to DFS on our internal
network. Now whenever I execute a file from a network
share via DFS, I am prompted with an IE-like "File
Download" dialog.
I have traced it down to being caused by the . in the
FQDN of our AD. I proved it by accessing the same file
from the referred server's share by its netbios name and
then its FQDN.
EG:
\\server\share\folder\file.exe does NOT initiate
the "File Download" dialog but,
\\server.domain.name\share\folder\file.exe DOES.
This is pretty annoying. I checked my Zone settings in
IE and found that, according to them, any UNC should be
in the Local Intranet Zone and I reset it's security
level to low and then made sure eveything was as "open"
as possible, but to no avail.
I expect that the answer will be that it is by design
(DDD), but essentially I find this unacceptable as it
even happens from a mapped drive letter.
Please help.
Cheers,
Jeremy.
