How to display name instead of "another user" on a file lock

Sometimes when i open a file across our Windows network (all XP and
2000/2003 servers) a file that is locked will display the name of the
user who has locked it and at other times it will just say "another
user". This occurs even when using Microsoft products like Word and
Excel.

Is there a specific reason to why a name appears sometimes and not
others? All files would be opened by people using domain accounts in
active directory. No one knows their local admin passwords. All files
are being opened by the same file share.
Is it possible using DFS can cause this to happen?

I'm not sure why it would show 'another user' but I would check the
tools>options>user info (for Word) or general (for Excel) and make sure their
name is in the space provided. If it's empty I can imagine it would give a
generic error and I know at work here sometimes people just put the company
name so it says someone from our company is using it.. which is obvious to
say the least. Hope this helps.
