File association

Because we replaced our file server, I need to update a file association on
all workstations in our domain.

I would like to create a batch file that would update the registry to remove
the old file association and implement the new file association. All
workstations are running XP Pro except one vista workstation. Any help
would be appreciated.

You could use associate.exe. AFAIK, it is included with
the Windows Resource Kit.

I actually wonder why the replacement of a server requires
a change of file associations on the workstations.

We are using file association to execute a batch file for plotting drawings.
One plotter has 36" paper, the other has 30" paper.

When we send the job to the plotter, it includes the server name in with the
plotter name, such as:

copy %1 \\srv1c\HP1050C

I am certainly open to a better idea.

I don't understand AFAIK

"AFAIK" stands for "As Far As I Know".

I don't quite understand why copying a file to a printer
would require a specific file association - but then I do
not yet know how exactly you initiate the copy process.
