I'm not sure how but when I double-click the c: drive it
opens up a executable file. Somehow it is associated with
a file instead of just listing files on the drive. If any
of you know how I can change this back please let me know.

I've seen this happen before when there was an autorun.inf on the c drive
that was launching a program. Check to see if you have an autorun.inf on
the c drive.

In My Computer, open C by a right click and 'Explore', which will get
round the trouble. Look for an autorun.inf file and delete it -
probably copied by accident from a CD
