file access through ftp

I just installed XP on my PC. I had win98 se previously, and am trying to
get to this PC, via ftp, from my mac using OS 10.2. Under win98 se, I could
ftp in from the mac and "get" or "put" a file. Under the current OS, I get
the message, "Connection refused". How do I set up the PC under XP to allow
access to files from the other machine? Thanks.

Hi,

Can you read the content of FTP server and can't write to it or you can't
even read the source?

I can't get on the server like I could under win98 se. I assume I need to do
something in XP to set it up as an ftp server.

Hi,

go to Control Panel -> Add/Remove programs -> Windows Options -> here select
IIS and click the button Details and then select FTP.

I hope this helps you out,

Thanks, that got FTP up and running. Now, although I can get to
the machine, and see the session from the xp machine, it says my
directory is "/" and I can't change directory using "cd" and can't
"put" or "get" files. Is there something to be done to get the
commands to actually work? Thanks.

Hi,

Open IIS management console (Start -> All Programs -> Administrative
Tools -> Internet Information Services. Expand FTP Sites and right click
Default FTP Site. Go to Home Directory and select where you want it to point
at (e.g. C:\My documents. Not if you select C:\My Documents no user will be
able to go to e.g. c:\ (outside My Documents folder)). Depending on options
that you want to have, turn on/off Read, Write, ... access. Click on
Security Accounts and disable "Allow Anonymous Accounts". Through NTFS
permissions select who can access your files on your hard drive (e.g. Write
them, Read them,... )

I hope this helps you out,

Mike
