File Access Hell !

Surfsup

I still cant manage to use pc files from my 2210 no matter how hard I try.

I am connecting to the internet using a bluetooth Network Access shortcut
from my ipaq to my pc and it connects fine. There seems however no access to
my files on the pc whatsoever.

I can run an ftp server and a client on my ipaq and access all my files that
way, but I want to be able to click on an image and actually use it from my
pc, not download it to my ipaq and then view it.

I have set my C drive to share but I dont even know if I have set up my xp
network correctly. When I click on workgroup in xp it just says cant access
the workgroup after hanging for ages.

I am connecting to my xp network using 192.168.0.1 with no username and
password and I can access the net. However I have tried setting up a new
account on my xp box and using that username and password, but this makes no
difference.

I have tried using a VPN but this doesnt do anything. Im not really up on
networking and simply just want to access my files.

Is there any program I can get that will run as a server to let me access my
files on my xp box, like ftp but when you click a file it actually runs it
if the ipaq recognises that file type rather than just starting a transfer ?

I can remote control my pc from my ipaq using vnc, can use the internet,
ftp, I just now need direct access to my files but this is proving
impossible for me.

How does everyone else access their pc files with bluetooth and xp ? Wifi is
not an option yet as I cant afford it and can put up with the speed of bt
for now.

Please help as I am running out of walls to bang my head against.

Have you tried the following...

Open File Explorer on the PocketPC and tap the right-most small icon at the bottom, ie. the one that
looks like a hand holding trash can. Note that you can only cut-n-paste/copy files between the
desktop and PPC.

Look at Netuse, Netrunner (both FREE) or Resco File Explorer ($$$) if you need to open files across
the LAN from your PPC. I did use Netuse on my iPAQ 3835 and a D-Link DCF-650W wireless card... I now
use Resco Explorer 2003 on my iPAQ 5555 device since it came free with the device...:)

Netuse...

All this presumes you have network shares configured on your desktop(s).

Note, leave the domain field blank if your in a SOHO workgroup environment, which most home users
are...

Additionally you may need to use a different ID than the default "Pocket_PC" for the above to work.
I use "AlPocketPc" for example. NetBIOS does not play well with certain characters in the
name...Look at the "WINS Naming Issues" section of this page...

Otherwise you should probably post this to the
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.pocketpc.wireless news group. I don't do BT, but a lot
of folks, including some of the Mobile Devices MVPs, do so you probably will get some help over
there...
