File access denied error- pst from 8X DVD - outlook 2003

Hi All,

I recently I burnt all my email folders in a 8.5 GB DVD and I wanted to
access the same using outlook 2003. I am running under windows XP under
domain specific account and the pst files have the options Read-only and
archive checked.

As of now, I am trying to load the pst files from File -> Open -> Outlook
Data file. But, I am getting the error, "File access is denied. You do not
have the required permission to access the .pst file"

I am suspecting that read-only option is the culprit. If there any way I
can get around this problem?

Please let me know ASAP.

Thanks,

PST files need to be opened in write mode; Outlook cannot open a PST
file that is on a read-only medium.

Hi All,

Thanks for your reply. I would like to understand a little more here.
what could be the reason for write enabled .pst folder. I thought of using
the DVD for mail search operation only.

Please let me know, if you have any idea?

Thanks,

The reason is because Outlook is written that way. It cannot open read-only
PSTs, plain and simple. Perhaps a tool like Lookout or Windows Desktop
Search can, but I haven't tried them. I don't like to have my mail indexed.
