fed up with windows

I see a prevailing theme thru all of these posts. Windows
is garbage. It's designed in a manner that begs idiots to
write spyware, virus's, etc and then infest our computers
to the point where they are unusable. Microsoft, owner,
designer and author of Windows either can't or won't
offer an effective tool to stop this crap.

I'd love to write more on this topic, but a bunch of
spyware just cropped up. I'll go run Microsoft
Antispyware in safe mode for the 1,000,000,000,000th
time.. I'm sure it'll get rid of this time. What a crock

You're missing some things. You are missing that out of more than 6.8
million downloads of the product, only a very small proportion are posting
here. In the current download, there's a direct link in Help to the HTML
version of these groups--I see you found it.

The vast majority of those users are having no problems and, in fact, aren't
finding any significant amount of spyware.

You are reading material that mainly comes from either folks who have real
problems with spyware--yes, the problem exists, that's why the product--or
who are having significant problems with the beta--yes, it is a beta--there
are definitely bugs.

Nice answer.. keep your head buried in the sand. Industry
surveys say 67 percent of all systems running windows are
infected. Most users have no clue they have spyware,
which is totally understandable.. they aren't computer
people, they have other jobs, If they knew, they'd report
it.

I wonder why you didn't answer the other notes I sent
that were a bit more technical in nature.. eg; I asked
how to stop this crap from springing up on my PC. The
simple answer is you can't. Windows is Client/Server, so
you invite executable code into your living room.

The spyware, adware, virus problem will blow up
eventually and if you guys don't get your act together
microsoft can bend over and kiss their butt goodbye.
We're already at the point where only a total moron would
give credit card data and do a transaction via Windows
and the net, pretty soon people won't even do an online
connection if you clowns can't get it secure.

And this beta product, and the future availability of these capabilities
without additional cost for licensed Windows users is a response to what you
state in the first paragraph.

I've answered quite a few questions, technical and otherwise today--sorry if
yours got missed.

I prefer answering genuine questions from users with actual technical
issues, over pontificating.

I'd certainly agree that the Internet is becoming a more dangerous place. I
don't see any clear evidence that moving away from Windows improves that
picture.

To target Bill Sanderson in your little rant against MS
was unfair. His many posts are evidence that he spents a
lot of his time helping people who have problems. He also
patiently answers the same old question many times from
people who either don't know how to read previous posts
or who cannot be bothered to do so.
I have read most of his posts and I have learned a lot by
doing so. I thank him for that.
I have read many posts from people who appreciated his
help. Keep in mind that most people don't post back
unless they have additional problems or the solution
doesn't work.
I'm not against criticism, far from it, as long as it is
constructive by focusing on specific issues. Yours was
not.

I'm starting to notice a theme too. That everyone I've heard from who
complains about windows is childish, impatient, stupid and arrogant and more
than willing at any given opportunity to prove it. If they don't get
everything they want the way they want it right now they think someone
should pay. I have thought about trying a different os from time to time but
then I read something these jackasses write and decide I'm probably best off
where I'm at.

I'm not thinking the real Bill Sanderson posted the above message.

First thread...

I guess that indicates a thread other than the current thread... perhaps
that is where the reply belonged. No wonder I couldn't find it...

I'm guessing the average active windows user probably now
spends a minimum of 1 hour per working day fighting
virus's, spyware, malware etc., constant scans are
required, recurrent malware.

I'd call that enough reaason to rant about windows

Totally wrong if you protect your PC. If a majority Windows
users
did this we should only have small problem with this.
With some major outbreak time to time.

1. Firewall
2. Windowsupdate
3. Antivirusprog
4. Antispywareprog

How many user can for sure say that above is up to date !?

I support hundreds of users who don't spend one minute fighting anything - I
did all the fighting when I configured their desktop/laptop load and
upgrades as well as lock down procedures, anit-virus and anti-adware. I get
calls for paper jams - I feel like the Maytag man - of course, now I've
jinxed myself!

I keep everything up to date and the only problem I ever have is
tracking cookies. The antispyware seems to be working really well, it's
found 3 items and seems to have kept the rest out. I haven't had a virus
since I don't remember when, and (unless I am just not seeing it) my
computer hasn't been hacked into. I do hope windows adds tracking cookie
protection to the real time services though because they do slow down the
computer and are a pain in the butt. If you turn all cookies off your
internet experience will suffer so I think this is a reasonable request.

You are completely correct Bill.. I and anyone else
that's allowed ourselves to become dependant on this
garbage operating system certainly qualify as idiots.

Incidently, in 30 years of mainframe experience I've
never seen a virus or malware. Wonder which architecture
is more secure? Not a tough question even for an idiot.
