Faxing problem via Simple Mapi in Server2003/Exchange environment

Hi All,

Hoping someone can help me with this issue that has just surfaced at a
customers who have recently upgraded their server.

Our application sends faxes using simple MAPI/Outlook using simple MAPI api
by emailing to a fax recipient whose address is in the format
[Fax:XXXXXXXX]

This was working fine through Win2KSR3/Outlook 2000 SR1 with the fax
transport routing the faxes through a local fax modem.

We have since updated the system to XP SR2/Outlook 2003 and are routing the
fax transport through the shared fax on an SBS.

Sending directly from outlook works fine as I believe its not relying on the
MAPI api, but using its internals or CDO.

But sending the fax message through MAPI result in the fax not being sent
and the following message returned to Outlook:

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

Subject: E-MAIL FROM XXXXXXXX
Sent: 10/25/2008 10:21

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

'0XXXXXXXXXXXX' on 10/25/2008 10:21
The message could not be delivered because the recipient's
destination email system is unknown or invalid. Please check the address
and try again, or contact your system administrator to verify
connectivity to the email system of the recipient.

<sbs.domain #5.1.2>

If anyone can shed any light on this problem it would be very much
appreciate as its had me stumped for a few days now and I don't seem to be
getting anyway, hopefully its just a setting that needs to be changed on the
server.

Thanks,

Thanks for the info. I knew I couldn't help in the outlook.fax group, but
when I saw you'd posted to the appropriate developer groups, I hoped you
might get an answer there.

Internet fax

It's very convenient to use an internet fax service instead of the fax machine. It needs just the internet connection, and there are no more money spent for paper, toner or repair affairs. I use Popfax.com and it's wonderful for me.
