Faxing in Windows XP

Guest

The fax software built into Windows Xp has worked well for the last year
until 2 weeks ago.

At the moment all incoming faxes fail and when I send a fax the fax monitor
indicates that the number is being dialled and after about 1 minute I get the
message "No Answer" yet I know the fax machine is working at the receiving
end.

All the settings seem to be OK yet I still cannot send a fax or receive one.

The modem is working OK

Any suggestions please

One thing that might do that is a corrupt Modem driver.

If you own the third party disk with it's XP drivers, put it in, and run it
to install it. Otherwise use the windows default driver, like this:

Go to Start/Run, and type DEVMGMT.MSC , highlight the device, Action menu,
"Uninstall", then restart Windows, to find the device drivers again
automatically.

I know this is going to sound funny, but did you verify that the phone
line is still active? Did the phone line get unplugged accidentally?
Could it have possibly broken? Do you hear the modem dial out?

To Mark ferguson and Supacool

My apologies for not answering your responses to my question.

Well Supacoll you hit on the solution to my problem.

My phone line was made inactive because i forgot to pay my Phone bill - such
a silly state of affairs.

Thanks to both of you for suggesting a solution.
