fax won't release phone line

Hi. I only have one phone number. I have Phone Tools
Plus Expert fax program. When I have closed it out, if I
don't unplug my modem, I cannot receive regular phone
calls as they all try to go to the fax. I have tried
shutting down and restarting, etc. Also, I can't remove
the fax icon from the bottom of my screen right now
because it does not have that option. I think if I shut
down, it will be gone, but unless I unplug the phone line
from this computer, I still can't get any phone calls.

When I had a different fax program, I was able to leave it
plugged in all the time and it would be fine as long as
the program was shut down.

I would appreciate any advice you may have as the web site
of the manufacturer of the program was no help. Thanks.

How many ring did you set for the fax to answer? Also you
could turn off the Auto Answer feature if you're not
expecting any fax.
