fax vs. phonecall

Can anyone assist me? I am running XP with a compatible
modem gtwv.92voicemodem but my fax cannot distinguish an
incoming phone call from a fax transmission. When I was
using win98 I had PhoneTools that could do that. Is the
microsoft fax capable of doing this?

Distinctive Ring is not supported by Windows XP. Therefore, Windows XP Fax
will answer every incoming call it receives. The alternative is to install
an external switching device to your phone line.
