Fax modem problem

E

E.Z.

I installed an internal fax modem (Motorola SM56 PCI).
I used Microsoft Fax Service. Now the XP recognizes the modem as fax, BUT,
when Im trying to send a fax (from Word for ex.) I hear the dial tone for a
second, then it disappears and right away Im getting the msg: "There is no
answer" at the Fax Monitor.
Any1 can help?
Tnx

Well, I've tried their drivers and non was working with XP. I had to d/l a
driver from Modemsite, and this one is the only one that works with XP.
I dont think that the problem has anything to do with the driver 'cause
other apps, WinFax pro for ex., perfectly work.

Start with what the message says. Modem has two modes of
operation. Original and Auto-answer. Your modem is
responding to a command to auto-answer; not a command to
originate a transmission.

Two ways to attack this problem. One is to try this and
that - shotgun - try a new driver. Other is to first look at
the symptoms.

Yes, more details can be found from the following articles:

If the issue persists, please download the MPS report tool from the
following link and send the result (CAB) file to me. This log file can help
me clarify the computer configuration.

915706/MPSRPT_SETUPPerf.EXE>

1. Double click this file to run it.
2. After that, please go to C:\windows\MPSReports\Setup\Reports\Cab .
3. Find a file named [COMPUTERNAME]_MPSReports.CAB
4. Send this cab file to me at (e-mail address removed)

Please also take a screen shot of this error and send it to me for research.

The problem was beyond these info pages 'cause the fax worked with other
apps such as hyper terminal and some of my apps. Only Microsoft fax couldnt
handle it.
What I did, I uninstalled and then reinstalled the driver. This time it
worked. Go figure...
Interesting point is that Motorola new drivers for XP, Ver. 06.08.01 (2004)
and Ver. 06.05.00 (2003) do not work. The installation ends with error (10).
I had to download a driver from ModemSite.com.
Tnx,
E.Z.
