Fax Manual Answer Stopped working

Any ideas on how to restore the manual answer popup on XP when the incoming
line rings? It used to work fine but alas no longer. I don't know exactly
when it stopped working but it was around the time I had to reload the modem
driver, and installed Norton systemworks and firewall. I've done the usual
toggling of all setup bits to no avail. Faxes work fine in auto answer mode
or if I manually kick off a receive, and it is picking up the # of rings
setup correctly in autoanswer mode but nothing happens when the phone rings
in manual answer mode any longer. I even tried uninstalling fax support and
re-installing it with no improvements. The modem logs shows the proper ring
message response being generated also evidenced by autoanswer working.
Ideas?? Thanks.

A number of standard update and repair procedures disabled the Fax Monitor
in the initial release of Windows XP. These problems were fixed in Service
Pack 1. Make sure you apply SP1 if you notice this problem. The following

Thanks so much for the prompt and most useful reply. My system is up to date
but your links proved to be the key to the problem. Norton firewall was
interfering with the fax popups. Following the methods outlined I have
resolved the issue. Thanks again :)
