Fax keeps failing with "There was an error when printing.... to MSFAX"

Can anyone help me to diagnose the real problem here (I've used this before,
but not for quite some time) ??

I'm trying to Fax a Word document using File/Print then selecting Fax as the
printer, and every time without fail it pops up an error window saying

"There was an error when printing the document "<doc name>" to MSFAX:"

and nothing else apart from the Retry and Cancel buttons :-( I can dial up
using the same modem connection, so I believe all the hardware is working
OK.

Any suggestions gratefully received :)

Many thanks.

I guess there is some problem with your fax printer. Delete your existing
fax printer & add it back using Control Panel > Fax > Open > Advanced
Options > Add a Fax Printer.
