Fax Console

I have a new HP Pavilion with
WindowsXP, which came with a Lucent Win modem.
I tried to set up the Fax Console. In Control Panel I
clicked Add or Remove Programs, then clicked Add/Remove
Windows Components.
This message came up:
"Setup was unable to open file wbemoc.inf. Error Code
0x2 at line 2011777033." When I clicked OK this came up:
"The applicaion could not be initialized".
Can someone advise me how I can activate the WindowsXP
Fax Console?
Thanks.

I haven't seen a Lucent Win modem yet that is compatible with XP Fax. Is it
on the XP HCL list?

As I started to switch to winxp pro from win98se, I found
that the description in the INF file for the winmodem was
very lacking -- the dialer pad software wouldn't even
work. I looked around the internet and found someone who
basically said that he pulled pieces from a couple of INF
files for win98 and made a new one. Now I recall, the
specific problem in my case was that winxp left out all
of the interpretation of the codes coming back from the
modem. So, I guessed at which winmodem I have, tried a
couple of INF files, finally found the right INF file.
I'm guessing that this is your problem, too, because if
MS can leave out functioning FAX code when going to winxp
from win98 for me, they probably did for you, too.

I probably started by looking in google.com for winxp fax
failure, or some such. My assumption is that winmodems
are probably pretty much the same and that MS ignored
them all when "upgrading" to winxp, for some reason.
