Fax and ISDN modem

The built in fax in Win XP Pro doesn't seem to recognise
my Billion ISDN PCI Card as a modem. Do anyone know if
this might be a driver problem, or doesn't Win XP Pro
recognise ISDN (which is the most common telephone
standard in Norway where I live) as a telephone standard?

Many users don't realize that faxing is a function that can only use analog
phone lines and analog fax modems. Accordingly, no fax software will
function with digital or DSL lines. With some ISDN lines you can isolate the
voice/analog line and hook that directly to your analog modem or obtain a
line filter suitable for connecting a standard analog voice line then
connect an analog fax modem to that line.

....or G3 analog fax emulation over ISDN - such as provided with most, if not
all, commercially available ISDN TAs. Pop over here
http://www.billion.com/communication/communication.html and you should find
suitable software/drivers for your TA
Oh - BTW, there is also G4 Fax, which is explicitly an ISDN fax standard

Er..I think you are confusing ISDN with ADSL. Pretty much all voice and fax
traffic has been carried over ISDN for the past 20 years - it is just that
the local access (or subscriber line) is analog - with the D/A conversion
taking place at the local exchange.

The solutions you are referring to apply to ADSL - there is no analog
carrier in an ISDN line, so there is nothing to isolate or filter.

Don't be sorry. I asked for the clarification since I had misread the
initial post and was posting the answer for DSL lines. I rather suspect,
though, that most users still can't fax over ISDN using Win XP Fax even if,
in theory, they should be able to. Then again, Win XP Fax can't use a lot of
standard analog fax modems either.
