Favorites do not Open

I have several Favorites listed in Explorer 6. Something has happened that I get no response when I click on them. Can someone offer a suggestion on how to correct this problem? Not sure if it makes any difference but my operating system is Windows "ME". Thanks
 
Some parasites will play havoc with your favorites.

If you have too many in one folder you may have a damaged index.
