For some reason when I access my favorites in internet explorer it crashes
the computer. I have been having this problem for a while now and I cant
figure out why or what is making it do this. I am running win98se and ie 6
sp1. Also sometimes when i can get in to favorites with out it crashing right
away if i hover the mouse on a folder in favorites and let the contents pop
up the background is transparent and all you can see is text fromteh links
inthe folder, then if i try to use the windows start button all teh text is
messed up and keeps doing the hall of mirrors effect until i reboot. this is
driving me nuts because I know a fair amount about computers and software and
I still cant track this bug down. Any help would be great thanks.

Hi,
Some things you might try:
The Favorites folder may be damaged. Export your Favorites (IE> File>
Import/Export...) and delete the Favorites folder from DOS. See;
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers3.htm#favorites

This might be a malware problem. Work through the solutions (CWShredder,
Ad-aware, Spybot) at
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm Also note the security tips on that
page.

This could also be caused by a legitimate program running in the background.
Disable ad-blockers, privacy/security programs, toolbars, other add-ons for
IE, etc to see if one of them is causing this. Run MSCONFIG> Startup tab to
disable any program which might be interacting with IE.

Less likely, I think, but corrupted or outdated video drivers might be
involved. From Ctrl Panel> Display> Settings>Advanced> Performance, try
taking Hardware Acceleration down a notch ot two. Check Display> Settings>
Advanced for information on your video adapter/driver including (possibly) a
link to the manufacturer's website.

Hope this helps,
Don
