Favorite icons changing and missing

I have set up the favorites so that they have specific
icons for each favorite e.g. St George Banks icon is
their green dragon.

I have problems getting the icons to come into the
favorite. Also after closing and opening IE the icons
could have changed leaving some that had specific icons
with standard E icons, and some of those that did not
have specific icons now have there own specific icon.

Anyone have any ideas

Try FavOrg:
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,108438,00.asp
or
http://tinyurl.com/ytww7 from PC Magazine.

Description:
FavOrg scans the Web sites in your Favorites list for favicons -- custom
icons provided by the Web site. The icons are displayed on the Favorites
bar, the Favorites menu, and the Address bar. Custom icons make the
Favorites list easier to scan, letting you locate a given shortcut faster.
Microsoft added the custom icon feature to IE5; FavOrg brings this
functionality to IE4 as well. Favicons are usually lost when you delete your
Temporary Internet Files, but FavOrg preserves them. The program also lets
you associate any icon you choose with a given shortcut, even if no favicon
is provided. Since FavOrg must check the validity of an Internet shortcut
before attempting to download the favicon, it automatically flags dead links
as it goes through your Favorites list. If you like, it can update
redirected links or reset dead links to the site's root. FavOrg was written
by Patrick Phillipot, and first appeared in PC Magazine November 7, 2000
(v19n19). Source code is included.

Hi - These are known as favicons.ico (Favorite Icons) and they normally will
only last until your Internet Explorer Temp files are cleared.

You need to get a program called FavOrg 1.4 here:

http://www.gratilog.net/anglais/internet/favorg.zip
http://uk.geocities.com/personel44/files/favorg.zip

or Version 1.2 here:

http://www.liemar.com.br/construindoseusite/downloads/favorg.zip
http://www.themes.myqth.com/Downloads/favorg.zip

(still free at these links) which will allow you to save them permanently
in a different folder and re-associate your favorites with the stored icons.
(It will also verify whether your links in Favorites are stll good, BTW.)

If you want to read more about it first, go here:
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,4149,9883,00.asp

You can also try FavIoncizer, here:
http://www.codeproject.com/tools/faviconizer.asp?target=favicons I've used
this and it's quite good,. It will actually find about a third more than
FavOrg does (since it checks for referenced URL's), but lacks some of the
other cababilites of FavOrg, Recommended.

You need to create a favicon folder database, and stick all the icons you want to use for your favorites
Then just click browse and go to that folder. Just leave all icons in there and they should not disappear anymore, unless you move the main folder or delete it.

Can you please tell me where to create this folder? If I
create it in any folder that contains temporary Internet
files, then every time I run disk cleanup the folder and
the icons will disappear, won't they? I want to put them
somewhere where I can run disk cleanup over all of my
temporary Internet files and yet not lose this icon
database, and somewhere where they will still appear in my
favorites list.

Thanks for any help.

Thank you for your program. Very good. Can I change the
names of the files in the _icons folder so that the icons
will be applied to other website links? FavOrg doesn't
seem to allow this.

You can put it almost anywhere. Why not try a hidden sub folder of
Favorites? Faviconizer puts them in such a sub folder called _icons

That will not achieve anything. If you change the name, then the
favorite that has that icon in its Properties won't find it.
You can edit the Properties of other favorites and use Change Icon to
use an icon already in the _icons folder.
