Fault Bucket Update

Sorry, I finally found what you were looking for. I posted the results
below, although I doubt it will be of any great use.

I seem to found the culprit. The RAM used in building the computer was not
what you would call "Top Shelf" and I ran into some other issues that caused
me to think I had a problem elsewhere. The only thing that was common in
all of the issues I was having was the memory. I replaced the RAM with 4
Gigs of Crucial 2 by 2 Gig, which was even cheaper than what I originally
bought. ( I don't even remember what brand it was, but it was not a major
brand) I am still only seeing 3.25 Gig in Windows though.

I thought Windows XP was supposed to suppport up to 4 Gig?

All 32-bit client versions of Windows (not just Vista/XP) have a 4GB
address space. That's the theoretical upper limit beyond which you can
not go.

But you can't use the entire 4GB of address space. Even though you
have a 4GB address space, you can only use *around* 3.1GB of RAM.
That's because some of that space is used by hardware and is not
available to the operating system and applications. The amount you can
use varies, depending on what hardware you have installed, but can
range from as little as 2GB to as much as 3.5GB. It's usually around
3.1GB.

Note that the hardware is using the address *space*, not the actual
RAM itself. The rest of the RAM goes unused because there is no
address space to map it to.

A 32 bit system will not recognise 4 gb of RAM. What your system is
recognisng is par for the course

You have not provided the matching error report for the fault bucket
report as
requested.

Is the problem still occuring since you changed the RAM?

If yes what happens if you uninstall Need for Speed Underground 2. Do
you still see the errors?

Hope this helps.

It can address up to 4 gig of space, but that doesn't mean quite what you
think it does.

No 32-bit OS's allow full access to 4 gig of ram.

This is because they *have* to set aside space somewhere for addressing
hardware. 32-bit Mac and Linux OS's do exactly the same thing.

If you're seeing 3.25 gig, you aren't seeing a problem.

Thanks for the info on the RAM. Hmmm. I didn't think I had anything using
board memory. For instance. my video card has 1 gig of its own memory.

I just got the same fault bucket error again. Below is the report . I do
not get the error except when running NFS2 or similar games like Myst URU.
I have updated all of my drivers, including the video card. Athough the
errors are not nearly as prevelent as they were before I replaced the RAM,
the error does still occur.

Using address space does not mean "using board memory".

Then apparently there may be some hardware issues.

Check with the game manufacturer for specific compatibilities. It can be
that current versions of drivers exacerbate problems, and that you have to
roll back to fix them.
