Around the time that I downloaded a couple of security
updates, I started having trouble with IE. Sometimes when
I try to access a website, like this one, I get an error
screen, and sometimes when I simply try to exit, I get the
error messages. I have done all the virus screening, and
run my fix-it utility, but nothing helps. Also, when I do
get a website, it is very slow in coming up.

Kate,
This is kinda happening to me too. The security updates
you did, were they Windows updates or a virus protection
software updates?

For me, for certain website that I try to access, I get a
Runtime library error and my browser crashes and shuts
down. This happens if I do to a non-existant site (type
the address wrong), but it's also happening when I go to
certain other sites, but I haven't figured out a pattern
yet. And I'm running really slowly too, but nobody else
in my office is. Seems like I did a Windows update the
other day, wonder if that messed me up. Let me know what
type of update you did, please, I'm curious.

Also, though, for me, I'm getting a "Visual C++ Runtime
Library" error, it says "Runtime Error: Program
c:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplorer.exe. This
application has requested the Runtime to terminate in an
unusual way." Then IE shuts down. This *always* happens
if I go to an unregistered domain name (i.e. click a bad
link, or mistype an address), and sometimes happens when
I go to valid sites. I've done the SpyBot thing, removed
a bunch of crap (weather channel, a shopping window (that
shows you deals when you go to certain sites), stuff like
that). I've updated my Java, I did do a Windows update
the other day, I've tried unchecking that "enable 3rd
party browser extensions" box in Options, nothing helps.
Any other suggestions? TIA,

Karen

Yes, the updates were Microsoft security updates. The
crashes don't seem to have a pattern, though. I have a
troubleshooting book that says to try deleting all your
temp files and history. I am hoping that works.

Try this fix.

Runtime!
"Program: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\explore.exe"
The application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
It appears that I have both Java(Sun) and MS VM on the PC. After
disabling/unchecking Java(Sun) the runtime error ceased in IE6. Source:

If that fails, please post the exact and complete error message.
That is all we have to work with.
