Fatal exception upon XP install

Upon attempting to install Windows XP Pro (also tried XP
Pro SP1) over Windows 98 (both upgrade and new install),
it gets half way through "Preparing Installation", crashes
to a blue screen and displays the following error:

"A fatal exception 06 has occurred at 0028:0000001B. The
current application will be terminated."

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What else is running in the background during these installs? Clean boot
the machine and kill of all third party services and try it again. Also,
make sure you are using retail media and not a burned CD.
