Hi there,

Try the below work around:

1. Click Start, run, type "inetcpl.cpl" (with out quotation marks) and click
OK.
2. Click the Advanced tab.
3. Under Browsing, uncheck the "Enable third-party browser extensions
(requires restart)" check box.
4. Click OK.

I recommend you scanning for spywares using the award winning Lavasoft
Adaware software, please download from here (direct link):
http://www.lavasoft.de/ms/index.htm

After successfully installing the Ad-aware, please follow the steps below:

1. Double click the Ad-Aware icon on desktop.
2. Click "Check for Updates", "Connect" and download the latest pattern file
if available. and click Finish
3. Click "Start" and then "Next"
4. After the scan is finished, click "Next"
5. Select all the items (checkboxes) or
(Right click on any object in the "Scan result" list and choose 'Select
all objects')
6. Click Next and click OK to confirm removal.

I too was getting fatal exception 06 when I would launch IE while online
after installing a security update from Microsoft. Have you recently
installed Security Update KB891711 (either via Windows Update or
Automatic Update)? If so, you will see it running when you use
Ctrl-Alt-Delete. If it is running, that is probably the culprit.

KB891711 is causing problems for a lot of people and there are quite a
few threads about this in several newsgroups. The recommendation is to
at least remove it from your startup list in MSCONFIG (which is what I
did and everything is back to normal.) The update can also apparently
be uninstalled via Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs.

All the best,
Nevans

I wasn't sure WinMe was involved, too.

Yeah, WinME is involved as well. I was getting fatal exception 06 on my
WinME whenever I would launch IE6 while online after installing
KB891711. I don't know if it's significant or not, but I didn't get the
fatal exception if I launched IE6 while not online.

Thank you - removing KB891711 fixed my fatal exception error. It is caused
by problems when I downloaded Microsoft's security patches for Internet
Explorer.

Good to know how to get rid of problems caused by Microsoft. Thanx, Wes.

Out of curiosity, are you running any Norton programs?

i have same problem. win 98se dell desktop xpst-450, ie 6.0. have recently
installed patch kb891711, & it shows it's running with alt-ctl-del. the
error, (blue screen), seems to occurr after using windows media player 7.1,
&/or if i use the media option from ie's tool bar.

i too would not like to remove this kb891711 patch. if i disable it from
msconfig's start menue, will that render the patch inoperative?

i found this article:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS05-002.mspx

i think we need this thing(?)

I don't know what will happen. I don't know that Norton is involved, but I
have seen no indication that it is not. Norton has a long history of
messing things up and Microsoft can't fix Symantec's blunders.

status update: i called microsoft 1-866-PCSAFETY. first rep emailed me a
fix; a zip file. then they connected me to a rep to ask any questions about
the fix. glad i held for rep. didn't use the fix. rep had me delete a few
registry entries. don't remember exact paths. he said NOT to remove in
add/remove programs. that would uninstall the complete update. he said there
is a "bad" executable file in the kb891711 security update. it affects win
98se (& i guess others). the kb891711 entry is no longer on the msconfig
startup list, nor is it shown when alt-ctl-del is used for task manager. i
questioned if security was affected by this removal. he said no. he also
said to uncheck the critical update in the start up list. he suggested i do
a manual undate check periodically. he also added microsoft is aware of the
problem & are working on it.

to review, my problem of getting the blue screen 06 error message only
happened if i used my windows media player & ie was opened. if i close the
ie, & went to reopen the error would occur. if i didn't use media player, i
could toggle ie on & off (open & close) with no errors. i have read where
some could not open ie at all after update. my problem wasn't that severe.
so far no problems. thank you all, len kiesling
