Fatal Error Upgrading to XP

I have just formatted my hard drive and installed Win 98.
Tried to upgrade to Win XP Pro, but it gives me an error:
Fatal Error Setup cannot continue contact Microsoft
technical support (Error 617FF58H).

Any suggestions? Please help. Thanks.
