Family Pack license in the works - Update

Mr. Blacher is actually the one who thinks this is a good idea. After all,
that's how he got his copy. He was real proud of himself for finding a way
to get 10 licenses for Vista and 10 licenses for Office 2007 for under 500
dollars. He's a lawyer, or at least claims to be one. He thinks loopholes
define honor and character.

Get the EULA off the packaging for OEM XP. It does require that it be
installed on new hardware and that the builder agree to provide support for
Windows to the user.

Buy boxed Vista Ultimate edition and get 2 copies of Vista HOME Premium
for $50.00 per copy.

I think that is something that most everyone can accept!

That only applies to Systems Builders, not end users who build their own
machines or, like me, install a generic OEM XP on a 1999 computer.

If you build your own, who do you expect to provide support? If you build
your own, you are a system builder. Nothing in the license agreement
excludes home builders from having to install it on new hardware.

Support for what? If the hard drive goes, Maxtor. If the motherboard
goes, Asrock, etc.

If you
build your own, you are a system builder.

Um, the words are SystemS Builder, plural. I am not in the business of
building systemS.

Nothing in the license
agreement excludes home builders from having to install it on new hardware.

Dale

I never agreed to a systemS builder's license. It didn't come with the
DSP versions I bought and the EULA - that I did agree to - mentions
nothing of new hardware. That said, if it did, all I would need to do is
install a new hard drive to be in compliance.

It costs 2x whatever the price is for a copy of VHP at your favorite
discount software retailer. There is no discount or family plan that
applies in your situation.

to OP:

what our net nanny failed to mention is apparently the extra license program seem to apply to ultimate versions.

might investigate the cost differences.
buy 2 more home - regular price
upgrade to ultimate - buy 2 more at reduced cost.

When you buy a retail copy you are only buying the license.

MS just supplies the box & disc's at no additional charge, that's why.

You aren't going to find anyone who will sell you "JUST A LICENSE" for home
use. There isn't enough of a market to make it a worthwhile product. You
can buy "JUST A LICENSE" in business setting but then you're talking dozens
to hundreds of copies sold at once ... and still not at a significant
discount. Price out any product (Microsoft or not) in business volumes and
you'll see.

Let's repeat this. There is no significant cost savings buying only a
license from MS. Shop around the discount computer retailers to locate the
best price on a boxed copy. It will be less cost than the price of a
license from MS, assuming they even sell them for Vista. They did for XP,
but the cost savings was only about 10% off full retail, more than what you
would pay by buying the boxed copy from a discount retailer.

So your saying i av'e too buy boxed copy's for all computers, i thought i
could buy just the licence, and just use the same dvd, that's what i got
told.
