Family License?

I

Innes

Hi all,

I am thinking of buying Vista Premium Home Edition for my desktop, now I
read that there is a license available for families.
How does this work?
Do I have to install my copy first and then activate, then call Microsoft
and ask them to provide me with another key(have credit card ready) or are
there vendors out there that
just sell the key or serial number or however they call that in the vista
release? And what would be the cost for an additional license?

I did some reading up on this matter but the more you read the more
confusing it gets, any help is appreciated!

You will need to purchase Vista Ultimate to qualify for this offer.

The Press announcement is at
http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2007/jan07/01-17ConsumerOptionsPR.mspx
The link to the family discount page is currently redirecting to the Vista
home page.

Basically, buy and install a retail copy of Ultimate and then navigate to
the Anytime Upgrade site to purchase up to two licenses for Vista Home
Premium. You use the dvd's that come in the Ultimate box to install all
three. I think you could mix x86 and x64 versions if you want since
Ultimate comes with both x86 and x64 dvd's.

You have to buyt the most expensive version of Vista there is -
Ultimate Retail, and then you can install it on other PCs for another
$49.99 per PC

Just to clarify, Ultimate and Ultimate Upgrade qualify (the retail boxed
editions).

Remember all those bitchin we did here? Do you think Microsoft heard us?

I am very happy with that family license scheme, I'm planning about 3
licenses just for my use.

I plan purchase 3 Vista Ultimate licenses just to support the family
licensing. Now, I missed out on the free copy of Office, I need to figure
out how to pay for Office.

$400+$49+$49/3 cost $167 each.

I can tell you for a fact that they did. At least twice. Once on the
one-transfer rule rescinsion and once on a family plan. The ng's were not
the only channel they got feedback in, but every channel helped.

Ok then, I will buy one copy of Ultimate and one copy of Home Premium.
Phudddddd ...

I would be happy with it if you didn't have to buy Ultimate Retail and
could use any of the other versions.

Vista Family Pack Discount

If you have several computers in your home, you might wish there were a way
to upgrade them all to Vista without having to pay the full price for the
operating system several times over. Well, Microsoft has announced a "family
pack" discount for those who buy a copy of Vista Ultimate, which will allow
them to purchase two copies of Vista Home Premium at a discounted rate
(expected to be somewhere between $50 and $99 each). The regular price for
Home Premium is $239.

It's also going to be easy to upgrade from one version of Vista to another
(for example, from Home to Ultimate) because several versions will be
included on the DVD, and by paying the additional licensing fee you'll be
able to install the upgraded version and use it immediately. For more, see

Download Vista (legally) online

Previous Microsoft operating systems were available to consumers in a couple
of ways. You could buy a new computer with the OS installed, or you could
buy the boxed retail version. Unless you were a TechNet or MSDN member, you
couldn't download the operating system for installation as you can with many
software programs. Well, with Vista that's changing. You'll be able to buy
or upgrade Vista online, through the Windows Marketplace. Office 2007 will
also be available to buy and download there. For more information:

Hopefully our EU friends will be vocal and effective about pricing. I hope
they all contact their local MS offices and really yell about it.
