False Warning About No Anti Virus

An XP ballon warns that it can find no anti virus on the machine, and I am
in danger. There is in fact anti virus running. Is there a key in the
registry that got corrupted? How can I fix it to find the anti virus?
Thanks, I'm sick of the ballon warning.

If you go into the Control Panel - and then into 'Windows Security
Center' - Under Virus Protection you can set the option to have virus
Software that you will manage.

You appear not to have fixed the registry.. reload the Norton program..

YEs. But what bothers me is that it used to find the anti virus fine -until
I edited the registry trying to get rid of references to Norton System
Works. Anybody know the registry key to make this work again?

Did you replace Norton with another program? I don't think that XP
recognizes ALL anti virus programs.

No replacement. I think I deleted a key inadvertently. It saw the anti virus
before.

Q: What about Symantec? Why does Windows Security Center not detect the
status of Norton products?
A: Symantec’s product status architecture is unique among firewall and
antivirus manufacturers and requires a different approach to guarantee
detection of Symantec products. Symantec is in the process of developing
WMI providers and has plans to distribute the WMI providers to all
active customers shortly after Windows XP SP2 releases. The Symantec WMI
providers will enable full detection by Windows Security Center for
active Norton customers.

Without the updated WMI providers, Windows Security Center will detect
only whether Norton products exist. No status detection will be
available. You will receive a “red alert” message because Windows XP
could not detect an up-to-date and active antivirus program. For more
information about Symantec and Windows XP SP2, visit the following
Symantec Web site:

But Look in Here \HKey_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICrosoft\Security
Center\Monitoring\SymantecAntivirus

I then have a REG_DWORD key in there called DisableMonitoring with a
value of 1
