Failed XP install

I am installing XP home full on a machine that has the
min CPU, HD and RAM requirements. The HD is partitioned
and formatted FAT32. I get an error
message "session3_initialization_failed". It instructs me
to remove recently installed hardware and software. There
is no software and the only hardware is the video card,
mouse and keyboard. What is XP setup reading that it
doesn't like?

It's not min equipment, it's min requirements. Microsoft
has minimum hard drive size, CPU speed and RAM size they
recommend to install Windows XP. I am saying that this
machine meets those requirements.

Yes, all the hardware is compatible. I still get the
error message. Any ideas?

Thank you very much, but I cannot get past step three of
the outline that is presented on the site you directed me
to. As far as I know the hardware is compatible, but I'm
not sure what constitutes hardware exactly. Keep in mind,
I have been attempting a clean install all along, on a
machine that has an Athlon XP 2000 1.6 gHz processor, 256
MB RAM and a 20GB unpartitioned unformatted HDD. Does
the 'hardware' include:

motherboard?
keyboard?
mouse?
CD ROM drive?
Floppy drive?

This is all that is on the machine except the video card
and I've tried two different models, both of which were
on MS's compatibility list.

I cannot use the upgrade advisor or update the BIOS
because the machine is stripped and these utilities
require a working OS.

I continue to get a blue screen, at the same time each
attempt, that says "session3_initialization_failed". It
then intructs me to check recently installed hardware and
software & maybe update the BIOS. If anyone knows how to
update the BIOS without using a GUI utility, please
advise.

Incidentally, this machine has had W95 on it, upgraded to
W98 upgraded to XP, and it all ran just fine.

Thanx for your help,

Rip

Are you partitioning the drive?
Are you using any type of 3rd party partitioning software?
If so, don't, let Windows XP do it all.
Be sure you delete all partitions following the information in the
link.

Reseat all cards and cables especially the CDROM and hard drive IDE
cables.

Replace the CD drive.

Have you verified that the hardware and software is compatible with
Windows XP, especially #3 Upgrade Advisor on this link:

I had this same problem. I fixed it by writing zeros to the whole
hard drive and then installing XP afterwards.

Good luck!
