Failed Network Adapter????

-I ran a network diagnostic test because my computer is running sluggishly
and freezing. It said my Network Adapters=Failed.
(00000001)RealtekRTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC.I have an
Intel(R)Celeron(R)CPU -purchased from MDG-and I am running Microsoft Windows
XP Media Centre Version 2002 Service Pack 2. I hope this info is helpfull to
whomever tries to help me understand what this Failure means. Thank you very
much for your time and trouble.

How do you connect to the internet? i.e., do you actually use the NIC?
